Motherhood

Motherhood is accompanied by so much loss. There is the initial sacrifice of one’s body to bring life to this world. The first death of self, as being “mother” becomes the primary identity. But then there is the second death of self as the children leave the nest. A second loss of identity. Potentially more heartbreaking than the first.
